Fired Bohemian Rhapsody director Bryan Singer has disagreed to his charge of bad attitude on the set of his Freddie Mercury biopic, saying 20th Century Fox exited him after attending to the health of a sick parent instead of going on with his film.
“I don’t want anything more than to be able to complete this project and contribute to honor the legacy of Freddie Mercury and Queen, however Fox doesn’t allow me do so because I had to consider my health, and the health of my loved ones, first,” Singer’s lawyer Andrew Brettler of Lavely & Singer made this statement.
Production on the movie was stopped on December 1st, with a Singer representative saying a family health incident took him off. Fox verified the sudden suspension seeing only Singer’s “unexpected absence.”
At the time TheWrap reported on Singer’s termination earlier on Monday, many insiders said Singer was showing a string of distressful behavior originating majorly from extensive absences and lateness.
“I requested some time off so I could go back to United States and attend to the pressing health issues with one of my parents. This was really tough experience, which absolutely took a serious charge on my health. Unfortunately, the studio was not willing to be considerate and terminated my services,” he said.
20th Century Fox rep had made no comment on Singer’s statement. Fox Film boss Stacey Snider and Production President Emma Watts gave warnings to Singer that bad attitude wouldn’t be accepted on set, THR said on Monday.
Singer also stated that rumors that his separation was ignited by a argument with Rami Malek, who plays Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in the movie, were not true.
“Rumors that my sudden separation from the movie was ignited by a disagreement I had with Rami Malek are false. Though, sometimes, we have creative dispute on set, Rami and I successfully squash those dispute and go on working on the movie together till just prior to Thanksgiving,” Singer wrote.
The studio is hoping to erect a new director in few days. Bohemian Rhapsody is still on promising to release in December 2018.
